James, I heard it through the grapevine. Lightreading has made some disparaging remarks but I tend to view their opinions as fluff. From a practical standpoint, it seems improbable that the people that did leave would have done so at the stage of the game that Cyras is/was in if the ASICs and other issues worked as designed.

During the late summer, Ciena's CEO also stated that he was not interested in any of the start-ups that were out there. I commented at the time that CIEN does not have a great track record with their acquisitions since Omnia essentially cost CIEN over 1.5 billion at today's price and the box has never been sold and won't be sold.

I would also be disappointed if Ciena bought a SONET company - I thought the advantage of CoreDirector was price and flexibility and had its sights set on eventually uprooting the SONET stranglehold in the metro . . .I know there is still huge growth potential but its become almost common knowledge the days of SONET hegemony are numbered. FWIW jeremic
