The National Gallery is on the mall, same as the Air and Space Museum, the Natural History Museum, the American History Museum, the Museum of Arts and Industry, the Sackler Gallery, the Freer Art Museum, the Hirschorn Art Museum, the Museum of African Art, and the Smithsonian Castle. The Holocaust Museum is just around the corner.

The mall is about a mile long, and stretches from the Viet Nam War Memorial to the Capital. The museums are along about half a mile of the mall. So it's all quite easy walking distance.
