Sorry, you are both incredibly off track. There are Catholic conservatives, notably involved in groups like Opus Dei, but they are not the mainstream of Catholicism or even the hierarchy. On the other hand, there are Catholics with a socialist bent, notably those in the Catholic Worker movement, founded by Dorothy Day, and in certain orders that do a lot of missionary work in the Third World, and have been the principal promoters of Liberation Theology, but they are not typical either. Most Catholics are somewhat liberal on economic issues and somewhat conservative on social issues, and vote unpredictably. The idea that Catholics in general are extremely socialist is bizarre, as is the idea that the elite gets the cream and throws bones to the flock. Catholicism depends on free will offerings, not tithing, and most priest and religious are by no stretch of the imagination rich, although they are not all poor either. Even bishops occupy their quarters and use their privileges much in the same way that a governor might, as an aspect of holding the office rather than a personal possession..........
