The Left almost succeeded in borking Thomas. Anita Hill was used and abused by aides of Ted Kennedy and Howard Metzenbaum. Nina Totenberg played a big role in dragging her before the committee, too. Hill was really a reluctant witness. One good thing about the hearings was when a panel of some black businessmen and academics testified on Thomas' behalf. America had the chance to see and hear some real-life success stories. I especially liked it when John Doggett, I think he is a lawyer from Houston, turned Metzenbaum into a stuttering fool.

I agree, I object to the term " Uncle Tom" too. It actually seems to demand identity politics, which is, in fact, an intellectual scourge. I feel as you do on a number of matters. Jesse Jackson, for starters....
