Rocky, I would consider going one step further to look at the flash memory business separate from the semis. Some semi businesses are indeed getting weaker and may get weaker still. Both Intel and AMD did warn this quarter, but they both noted their flash business was going very strong. Unfortunately, the market may not be willing to separate flash from semis when valuing these businesses. From the AMD announcement earlier this week:

AMD Expects Fourth-Quarter Sales and
Earnings Will be Lower Than Anticipated

But with regard to flash AMD said demand for its flash memory products remains strong and that it currently expects sales growth for flash memory products will somewhat exceed previous guidance for the quarter. The company further said that it has good visibility into future demand for flash memory products, which it expects will remain strong in 2001.

Intel said something similar in its warning.
