Jozef:

"I just noticed on Pricewatch, that for a price of Celeron 766 - $165 you can buy Athlon 950 - $161. For the price of Piii 866 - $220, you can buy Athlon 1.1 GHz - $219."

Yeah...AMD provides a 200MHz more for the same price across all ranges...not to mention the additionally SMOOTH Athy peformance...Now that Athy is one year old and recognized in the marketplace, consumers are beginning to recognize that the Athy's outstanding quality and price/performance advantage really does represent a viable alternative...I'm expecting a significant market share gain by AMD in Y2001 and a rising ASP, as Athy and Piii prices converge on a norm, once the existing distribution channels are cleared out...

Well, at $168 the 750 MHz P-III is only $3 more than the 766 MHz Celeron.

Same here in Germany (actual price list of K&M Elektronik). The Athlon 1000 is EXACTLY the same as the PIII 733.

I don't get it! Who in his right mind would prefer a PIII 733 to an Athlon 1000...?

Peter

<Celeron 766 at $165 on pricewatch> Well, it dropped a couple $$ today, but the real battle is against the PIII-800 at only $182. To sell a TBird 800 system for $50 less than a P3 system at 800 MHz and overcome the $30 integrated motherboard advantage, TBird 800 has sell for 182-80 or $102. Its at $110.

But I think a TBird 1000 system for $25 more than a PIII 800 system is a no-brainer for most consumers compared to a $40-$50 discount on equal MHz systems.

Joe that's good news from someone wanting to buy or build an AMD system, but is it good news for shareholders??
