SC is not supposed to look forward to see what MAY happen. Its supposed to uphold the laws as they exist. BOTH POSSIBLE DECISIONS IN 5-4 DECISION WOULD HAVE UPHELD LAWS--NEITHER WAY WOULD PRODUCE 9-0 IN ANY CASE.

btw they screwed up all the once in a life time opportunity for excitement, better than any park ride if all the things you mentioned did in fact happen. I WOULDNT CALL MILITARY INTERVENTION IN DC "BETTER THAN A PARK RIDE".

LIFE is full of these kinds of choices. I think Rhenquist in particular risks his stature in this case in order to prevent potential disaster. But the other view has equal validity and I was just listing the bad news scenario, not an automatic result of a recount w standards. I am sure you can list a series of problems that might come from this decision.
