I agree with that assessment. There will be a shakeout, but the established players like Nortel, Ciena and ONIS will come out on top. Some other players may only find a niche, albeit a nice one at that. Many of the others only hope to cash out on their IPO and walk.

The metro market is very big, but the DWDM and optical switching technology is just beginning to get a toehold. As costs are reduced, and the telco's become more familiar with the technology, and the telco's continue to get squeezed on profit margin, they will accelerate the adoption of this technology. It is a nice place to be right now, and in the foreseeable future.

Kenneth, The numbers have not been that large to date but the metro space as a whole is expected to dwarf the long haul market in total opportunity. tp
