i think the market would appreciate a warning from suncom cuz investors are waiting for the other shoe to drop.

twister: this is an interesting issue. There may well be a "quality" discussion on January 17 (hopefully not much of one), but I don't doubt that on that date Sun will put out numbers that the auditors can sign off on which meet official expectations. The market clearly has already assumed that on that same date they'll guide downward.

So that leaves the issue of a warning from them. I myself don't know of any precedents for a formal warning about a future quarter being given outside a regularly scheduled analysts' call or earnings report call (maybe you do know of a precedent). That leaves coded hints (like the CPQ guy who was 'comfortable with his inventory level'). Maybe it would take the form of Zander and McNealy complaining about too much Fed tightening or whatever in a speech to the Boy Scouts' investment club.

But I think any official warning before Jan 17th is a pretty low probability. Because they've already said they're not going to miss, and I believe them.
