Don't forget the switch to short term treasuries in lieu of 30 year t-bills. Clinton thought he'd save interest and now short term rates are higher than long term, otherwise known as an inverted yield curve. This is one of the harbingers of recessions historically. There is also a heckuva lot of principal payment coming due much sooner than if they had issued long term debt. Rubin thinks nobody knows the trick he and slick willy pulled, because the news pundits are too ignorant of basic economics. Times are going to get tough if greenspan doesn't lower rates like next week.knc
