I am here to report on the gingerbread houses.

It was almost a triumph.

It would have been a complete triumph but one little girl brought the wrong kind of icing. I TOLD them to bring the icing in the tube, but one little girl (her mother, actually) had to ignore the instructions and bring cake frosting. Now my houses are put together with melted sugar- almost indestructible- but not where moisture is concerned. The cake frosting had so much moisture in it it seeped into the seems and her house collapsed. I managed to make her a gingerbread brick- but it was impossible to recreate a house. I told her it looked like those 50's bungalows with the flat roofs. That was either not convincing or she finds those 50's bungalows as ugly as I do.

And we had one little boy throw up since he ate most of the candy he was supposed to put on his house.

They did very interesting things with their candy. One little boy used candy corn and made a house that looked- I swear to God- like a hedgehog. Another little boy made towers of m&m's on the roof- and that's all he did. The little boys did much stranger things with their candy than the little girls.
