Thread;

CPQ has now given up all of its intraday gain in AHT! Yea I know - so what! Apparently, today is pretty much the peak in e-tail sales. Consumers do not want to order much beyond today because e-tailers have done such a stellar job in the last 2 years blowing it! Consumers do not want their gifts two weeks after X-mas!! Unfortunately, that means that about 2/3 of the remaining e-tailers will be out of business in 2001.
It appears that the so-called great "new economy" has blown up. But then, I never quite agreed that an amazon.com or any other .com could make it. After all, what's the real difference between a Sears catalog and an e-tailer which is little more than a catalog-on-a-computer (except more complicated). We are just seeing the beginning of the unravelling of a lot of b.s. and unsubstantiated hype generated over the last 36 months. The new economy is a joke. Particularly the b to c portion. There will be some drastic moves required to keep us out of a depression let alone a recession. Too much of the "new economy" is built on sand. Time is beginning to show that there is very little substance to the new economy. In fact, even the broad band and wireless phenomenon is beginning to show weaknesses. The aol/time warner deal is also a joke. The FTC has regulated all of the profit out of the deal. Aol/time warner will now be in the same boat as AT&T since they must have open access.

P.S. futures are in the toilette (down 50+). So much for the year end rally.
