Thanks for the rosey forecast. I wish I was out of techstocks...sounds like you are.
As for the election. The Holiday buying season is short. A little over a month. We gave up about 20 days of it by watching the stupid election and 36 prime days for computers to be ordered. We sure didn't need that.

Try to understand people have been worried for months. They are not spending because they don't know if they will have a job in 6 mos. The election may have added to it but the MI consumer confidence index has been going down for 3 mos.

The important thing in all of this is that unemployment is rising modestly while inflation is starting to lessen. Oil fell below $30 a barrel earlier this week. If the trend continues thru January, the Feds have no excuse to cut and to cut well. The PPI and CPI increases have also started to lessen.

There is still a chance for a soft landing but a lot depends on Greenspan.
