Ted, I think any laxness on the part of the INS was exacerbated by the FL Dept of Elections. And it wasn't only illegals but dead people and felons as well. And how much did you say that K. Harris gets paid? Apparently, some department (SoS Harris'?) handed the counties the list of felons so that the counties could purge their lists. Some of the counties (Palm Beach was one of them) refused to do so. In an article I read, there was something about INS as well. IIRC, INS does not provide the list of legal aliens who are not citizens. I think the only way to purge the dead people is to cross check the registrations with Social Security administration, assuming that Social Security is not being cheated by the relatives of the dead people. But again, the Social Security administration doesn't provide this information. As far as registering new people, all of the mess has been created by the Motor Voter bill, which was an act of Congress that forced states to greatly relax the registration process. The reason was that the Congress in their infinite wisdom thought that the reason of low participation in the elections was due to the difficulty in getting registered. It looks like the law didn't have much effect overall in election turnout, but it still left the door wide open to cheating. Joe
