Re: Any particular reason why you pick the west coast?

Because you live there. Why else would I pick the west coast?

On a more serious note, being born and raised in San Jose I've seen the RE market go through it's cycles. In fact, I still have property in Willow Glen... a 950sqft 3/1/1 over there on Maxine Ave. built in 1951 that I could sacrifice for a mere $450k. It's a fixer though.

But the CA real estate, as well as Austin and a few other places, have been a direct beneficiary of the IPO/dot.com/tech boom which is now struggling. The appreciation over the last few years has been nothing short of spectacular. Prices have doubled over the last 5 years. My family sold a 3/2/2 in Pleasanton for 285k in 1994 that is worth $550k today. Austin is up 35% in just two years but RE prices here are still not near what they are in Silicon Valley.

But if the market pulls back like I think it will should a real recession occur, it will start on the west coast. Why? Because things always go from left to right... not right to left. Right?
