MARKET TALK: Some Upward Pressure On Core Prices....(Futs improving slightly)

8:32 (Dow Jones) Some upward pressure on core prices, with core CPI up 0.3%
in Nov. Overall CPI up 0.2%. Core increase likely fueled by 3.6% rise in
tobacco prices. Overall generally as expected, though slightly higher core
may spark concerns that underlying price pressures on the rise. (BB)
8:30 (Dow Jones) It doesn't appear investors are as willing to shrug off
Microsoft's (MSFT) expected earnings shortfall (its first in 10 years) as
they have been with some other bellwether tech names recently, and equity
markets are expected to open lower. Microsoft is off about 6% in pre-market
activity, and techs in general will head lower at the open. Many on Wall
Street are simply waiting for the few remaining tech heavyweights that
haven't pre-announced to do so. And while some argue that the poor earnings
views are priced into many of these names, that may not be true with regard
to future quarterly profits, where there is a serious lack of visibility.
CPI could be meaningful to stocks if out of whack, but PPI Thursday pointed
to tame inflation. Industrial production could also be key. (TG)
