As you may know, I am from Louisiana. And I think I can say with some certitude that many, if not most, Louisiana Democrats are Democrats in name only, because it was the Republicans who fought and won "the war." "The war," being, of course, the Civil War, which isn't forgotten in Dixie.

Louisiana politicians don't have the luxury of standing on principle. They have to be pragmatic, seeking coalitions, building consensus. John Breaux is a very pragmatic man. I doubt that he really gives a flip about Daschle. But we will see.

As someone who is part Cajun, it would do me proud to see a Cajun in the Cabinet. And then there is the party factor. Cajuns love to party. And I am sure that Dubya knows how to pop the gator. -g-
