first check and clean all the electric connections, battery terminals, grounds and where hot wires are bolted to something, like the starter solenoid. Make sure all is happy clean & shiny
Then check the solenoid itself as the grease inside gets cold and sticky in the cold. All that being OK it's probably the starter itself. You can get a rebuild or rebuilt unit at a fraction of cost of new

I agree -- strange.

A side benefit of this thread may be realized if we each tell what the problem TURNS OUT TO BE ??
