Dennis,

The bond market is a strong a signal as you can get that rate cut is coming very soon. Bonds are on fire.

We have hedge funds in trouble. Banks could get hit hard unless Al moves soon. Interest rate changes take some time to have a real effect, so if hes going to try and turn the Titanic he better get going.

The market is screaming for some help here. If all we get is a neutral bias, its time to put on the helmets and take cover.

If we could only get a nice spike on the VIX to 50 or 60 I would be ready to jump in for longer term. The lack of volatility makes me suspect we haven't seen the real bottom yet. People may be too hopeful that a rate cut will solve all their problems...

M.

<<Is there any way we can tell (e.g., surrogates) whether he will cut or not? >>

John Berry of the Washington Post has in the past been used by the Fed to transmit back-door press releases. His article in tomorrow's paper may be officially inspired.
