Fonix Voice Solutions Featured in Panasonic's 2.4 GHz GigaRange Elite Telephone
New Talking Caller ID Feature: Hear the Caller's Name Before You Answer
SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 2000--Fonix Corp. (OTCBB: FONX - news), a leading provider of human-user interface technology and voice solutions for wireless and mobile devices, Internet and telephony systems, and vehicle telematics, Thursday announced the integration of Fonix FAAST Text-To-Speech (TTS) into the Talking Caller ID Feature of the new Panasonic 2.4 GHz GigaRange® Elite Cordless Telephone, which was recently announced in a release issued by Panasonic.
Fonix FAAST TTS allows the Talking Caller ID to speak the name of the person calling, both from the base unit speakerphone, and on the cordless phone speaker when the phone is not in the cradle of the base unit. As a result, all Talking Caller ID names are pronounced through the speakers for the user to hear.
``We chose to integrate Fonix FAAST TTS into the Talking Caller ID feature because of the dynamic features Fonix speech solutions provide in the embedded environment,'' said John McNenney, assistant general manager of Telecommunications for Panasonic Consumer Electronics Co.
``With Fonix voice-in and voice-out technology, Panasonic can enhance its leading market position in the consumer electronics industry by offering our customers Talking Caller ID and other voice solutions in a broad array of consumer products.''
With Fonix FAAST TTS, customers may choose the Panasonic GigaRange Elite cordless telephone and take full advantage of the top-quality Talking Caller ID feature. Talking Caller ID is ideal for all users, and is practical even in low light conditions, such as the nighttime, or when the user is away from the Caller ID screen.
``Fonix involvement in the Panasonic product demonstrates our ability to provide world class embedded speech solutions on currently available microprocessors and operating systems, including Talking Caller ID,'' said Fonix COO William A. Maasberg.
``Panasonic enjoys significant worldwide market share in consumer electronics and a superb reputation for high quality. We are confident that Fonix FAAST TTS and Talking Caller ID will provide increased marketable functionality for both Panasonic and Fonix.
``This profitable relationship is precisely in line with the strategic business plan Fonix has developed over the past several months, which is to immediately expand our competitive advantage in the embedded marketplace.''
Fonix core technologies currently support a number of popular microprocessors and operating systems, including the Epson EOC33A family of processors. Fonix speech technologies enhance the functionality of embedded applications and products, positioning Fonix for immediate integration of speech in embedded solutions, including handheld devices, PDAs, cellular phones, and Internet applications.
Fonix delivers speech solutions through the Fonix FAAST framework.
