Much of the WWII stuff on the web is poorly written, yet priceless because it consists of the personal memories of those who participated in the fighting or on the home front. Recently I did a web search for a ship that my father was based on in WWII. One of the sites about his ship had links to some of these biographies, including first-hand accounts of the attack at Pearl Harbor...

Note: Dad was not a crew member of the Curtiss, but was based on it later in Guam where it served as an Admiral's flagship. Dad was briefly the youngest CPO (Chief Petty Officer) in the Navy. He got out of boot camp by going directly into duty at Great Lakes Naval Air Station. What a contrast to my own experience, where I got out of boot camp with a high lottery number! Here's another site I found during my search. I think it's where I read about the sabotage of the oil fields in Java and/or Sumatra. It's a detailed day-by-day account of about one year of the war...
