I wasn't referring to a $1bb buyback, but one much smaller, as the one I saw.
Furthermore, gaap is not strictly adhered to, in a very general sense, in most of these reports, otherwise we wouldn't have the accounting problems that several companies have fessed up to these past 2 years.
Finally, $1bb would be hard to hide if it was spent all at once. However, it's likely to be done in increments, over a period of time.
