What better demonstration area than the Winter Olympics? My understanding is that Samsung spent a fortune in Sydney to highlight their technology, and I expect the same for Salt Lake. I know that in my town all the carriers are already installing extra capacity for the Olympics (chimney sites in prime locations going for upwards of $1,500/month). Admittedly HDR will be most likely in demo stage, but I fully expect it to be available at the venue sites and in the main areas of attraction. My thought is that these large worldwide events are a magnet for the latest technology, and GSM/UMTS/W-CDMA will very likely be beaten badly at the Winter Olympics.

Maybe I should revise my score of CDMA 2000 vs. UMTS/W-CDMA at World Cup 2002 to be 2,000 to 112 (kbps). Still a blowout.

* 2002 - Typical single user throughput is likely to be 112 kbps. GPRS is routinely incorporated into GSM mobile phones and has reached critical mass in terms of usage. From Eric L. on Moderated this morning Message 15028497
