The net, as well as SI, is littered with countless individuals who are convinced that they can divine the future, be it in gold or lottery numbers. What's unbelievable, in this year 2000, is that there are even more people who are willing to believe that this is, or should be, possible. It's not whether they're right or wrong that's at issue, unless you believe in hocus-pocus witchcraft, but that others hold them up to ridicule when their predictions of future events inevitably turn out to be incorrect.

My favorite quote on this subject :) ........

<<"Personally, I think everybody who predicts the future with a straight face should be required (by federal law) to change out of the business suit, wrap him/herself in a gypsy shawl, wear one of those pointed wizard's hats with a picture of a crescent moon on it, and make conjuring sounds over a crystal ball. That way, everybody would know exactly what's going on and how much credibility to give the answer."

Bob:

Bill Murphy's gold predictions have indeed been abysmal. But at least he is fighting the good fight in a serious way. And I respect him for that.

Kinross, Bema to reopen Chile mine for a few months
VANCOUVER, Dec 15 (Reuters) - Kinross Gold Corp. (Toronto:K.TO - news) and Bema Gold Corp. (Toronto:BGO.TO - news) said on Friday they will reopen their jointly owned Refugio gold mine in Chile for at least the first five months of next year.

The companies said they expect the mine, which suspended in-pit operations on Nov. 9, to produce about 80,000 ounces of gold in the five month period, at an operating cash cost of about $230 per ounce.

The mine is expected to cease mining activities again in May 2001 due to the current low price of gold and ``the requirement for significant capital expenditures'' to keep it running in the second half of the year, the firms said.
