Bush comes from a fine tradition of recessionists.

I assume you mean his dad. Yes, agreeing to raise taxes in the face of a coming recession, and breaking his word in the process, was one of the great political mistakes of all time. I don't blame Senator George Mitchell for trying to sell this bill of goods to Bush - it was the only way he could damage the Bush Presidency after the Gulf War "victory." But Richard Darman showed the truth of the adage "with friends like this you don't need enemies."

However, the current version of Bush does not seem to be susceptible to this type of b-s. In fact, I understand that soon after Bush announced he was going to run for the Presidency, Darman offered his services and his offer was declined (thank G_D).

As for who is responsible for the past 8 years of prosperity, I will give the Clinton administration high marks for maintenance and for being in the right place at the right time. The base was built by Reagan and his supply-side tax cuts, etc.

I would be happy to discuss all this, including the causes of and the myth about the damage caused by the ensuing "deficits" by PM if you would like.
