SGI serves niche markets that their competitors cannot touch. These are afforded by their Visual Computing. Just look at their work in Jurassic Park, X-man, the Perfect Storm, etc. Visit their web site for more info. I think SGI is an inexpensive stock for the following reasons:
1. Their subsidiary Alias/Wavefront is alone worth more than the total market capitalization of SGI.
2. They own properties that are worth more than the $600 million that the market is assessing them at.
3. Their technology is appreciated by the car industry, NASA, the movie industry ..etc. Even Pixar uses SGI Visual Workstations along with Apple PC's.

I think Austin is right that SGI if successful as a turnaround story than the reward can be substantial.
