Mark

It's in 5.5 and works if you put a new toolbar for favs within the toolbar at the bottom of ie

<GGG> Oh no, another difference in operating system discussions<G>

You need to get a Mac also and really confuse us.<g>

I actually had never seen that box before so it probably is a new feature in IR.

Mark and all
Thought this to be interesting and I just installed IE 5.01 SP1 over the top of IE 5.5 SP1 using the method laid out below. It's from an email written by Scott Finnie of WinMag.

I had no browser under 5.5 as I did a clean reformat and install of Windows ME and 5.5 comes imbedded.I wanted to go back to 5.01 but didn't know how until now.

Question: I have IE 5.5 SP1, which works well. I like the print preview feature, although overall I don't see no other significant benefits from the upgrade. While trying to download and save the older IE 5.01 SP1 (per your advice), I am unable to run the IE5SETUP.EXE without getting an error message that says "A newer version of IE is already installed." Is there a way to trick the download into running? I am NOT installing, just downloading. By the way, I especially agree with your concerns for how Microsoft is abandoning experienced users for corporate and newbie types. --Stephen Kobsa

Answer: Hmmmm. Good point, Stephen. I sometimes forget that Insider Labs has about a dozen PCs configured with every version of Windows, and all are connected to a high-speed Internet connection. So I never have the problem you mention. I can always download IE from a PC with an older version. Try this for me, and please report back whether it works:

Open System Registry Editor. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE navigate to:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
On the right pane and double-click the Version icon. Copy and save the string of data there into a text file. You can revert this back after the download. DO NOT INSTALL ANY VERSION OF IE BEFORE YOU REVERT. Now, in this string data field, insert this text:

5.00.2919.6307

Click OK, and exit RegEdit. Try downloading again. --S.F.
