The purpose for that kind of taxation is for punishment. The people must wage a war on wealth. They must punish someone for the fact they were born.

Official good appearances doctrine requires a belief that wealth is evil. It is what everyone should believe. It's the greatest hypocrisy of all time because no one believes it, but all want you to believe that they do.

The effect of such taxes doesn't actually redistribute, rather it takes money from all and summarily destroys it. When gains on capital aren't taxed the reverse occurs and the greatest beneficiaries are the poorest people. There is no greater disbenefit done by the educated but to foster the completely absurd notion that tax on capital benefits someone.

You'll never get the brightest minds in economics to see this. They're too smart. They think it's noble to believe that less is better for you, and nobler to think more is best for them. It's called the fairness doctrine.
