Impeachment may not even be necessary. Your legal technicality isn't even important or particularly relevant in the big picture.

We shall see that the real loser of this election is the party that won, and in that regard, which party it was would not have made a difference.

Nothing of good will arise from this horribly tainted situation which pretty much ices the cake that Nixon started baking in terms of destroying the prestige and respectability of the Presidency.
