I think AMD needs to achieve and maintain 20% revenue from the processors to be a viable competitor long term.

I wonder what the long term will look like for the CPU market. The performance of the CPUs is just astonishing these days, even the "low end" 600 to 900 MHz CPUs.

The most demanding application (for the CPU power) I have ever written was a pain to use in the years of 100 to 233 MHz CPUs. Now the app just flies.

Two years ago NVidia acquiring 3dfx instead of the other way around did not seem realistic either. Now true, Intel would have to keep shooting various bodily appendages off, but they haven't shown any sign of not continuing this recent, fine tradition.
