my nomination for best-ever review of Death of a Salesman by an economist (Gene Epstein, in today's Barron's:

'This Pulitzer prize-winning play isn't about a salesman at all, and is even less concerned with the evils of capitalism. It's mainly an account of an unemployable nut-case too lamebrained to know that if he bought his place in in Brooklyn years before the area got built up, then he can sell his land for a small fortune and retire to Florida, instead of killing himself for the life insurance. Especially since, as we learn more than once, his mortgage is all paid off.'

While I have your attention, I do recommend his Gift of the Magi. When it comes to giving, the Magi showed the way and theirs is really the only economics worth a hill of beans at this time of year or any other.
