Zurich--Dec. 21--The Swiss National Bank sold 94.1 million Swiss
francs' worth of its gold reserves in the 10 days through Dec. 20, it
announced Thursday. This is equivalent to around 6 tonnes, and brings
the total of its planned second-tranche sale quota of 100 tonnes by
end-March to around 45 tonnes.

Asia Precious Metals Review: Spot gold capped at $273 per ounce
Tokyo--Dec. 21--Spot gold was capped at U.S. $273 per ounce in
Asia Thursday after rising overnight in the U.S. market, dealers
said. Silver eased as dealers marked down prices on prevailing
bearish sentiment. Trading was quiet on spot platinum and palladium,
dealers said, with Japanese players inactive on trade in the two
metals.

Asia Metals Focus: China seen allowing 8-10 firms to export silver Hong Kong--Dec. 20--The Chinese government is expected to allot quotas to 8-10 Chinese firms, that will be allowed to export silver made by locally produced raw materials, in 2001 compared with two firms in 2000, sources in China said Wednesday. They see the amount of quotas the government will allot in 2001 rising sharply from 280
tonnes in 2000 given the fact that the government and producers want to cut the domestic surplus.
