compatiblility between cards is a software issue. Of course the readers should be compatible across platforms. That is what PC/SC is all about. I believe it is hardware compatibility.

Of course you don't directly get the card from Gemplus. I'm sorry I wasn't clear. Gemplus is the OEM for the Visa supplying bank. I will try to be clearer in the future. I've been researching Gemplus for about 2 years now and I have a tendency to slide through the relationships right to the OEM level. Again, my apology.

You are not just talking PIN, but T=0 and T=1 protocols. There is a bit more on that Card chip than PIN authentication logarithms.
