Hey Wayne and SSP. This is the way that I understand it. If the company sets a dividend to be distibuted it will set an X (execution) date for owners of record on a record date. If they do not set an "owners of record" date then anyone buying the stock before the execution date recieves the dividend or split. It is up to the company whether or not it uses an "Owner of record" date. :^)
