Fee for service health insurance is almost completely extinct and rarely available. In most cases, your choices are this or that HMO or this or that PPO.

I'm not for a national health care system, but I do want to fill in the gaps, so that kids who come to school are not spreading tuberculosis, rubella and such.

There is also a problem for many seniors who can't pay for drugs. Some of those people were thrifty throughout their lives, but just never could save a lot of money. Again, some of these people wind up in public hospitals and nursing homes as chronic cases due to inadequate medical care.

I agree, there's no easy solution, and it's always better to leave to a free market those things taht private industry can handle.
