I think that saying the bears were wrong is incorrect. The Mania we had went way beyond all historical precedent. The rational person would have realised this in 98 that the market was already brewing some trouble. Heck The Dow has gone sieways since then. Because the Bullish mentality has worked so well for the last 8 years, doesnt ensure that the next 8 years wont be like the 70's or the 90's in Japan. Anyone who profited the last two years were lucky not smart, that includes me. There is no reason other then mania that these stocks traveled as high as they did.
