I am new to the trading game and have been lurking for several months now. The accumulated knowledge has been fantastic and I wish to thank each and every one of you. Before asking any questions,(and I've got plenty) I will relate just a bit of my recent (and not so recent) history: I'm 38 years old and have been a business information junkie all my life. Since I was 15 I've read 3-5 newspapers a day and every business mag I could get my hands on. The demands of a teenage daughter and putting a wife through college and law school precluded much investment but equity fundamentals were studied as a hobby. With my wife 5 years in the work force as a highly successful IP Attorney I have now been given permission <g> to retire. I knew I would only survive retirement if I found something enjoyable, challenging and consuming (sounds strange to some, but that's my definition of a great retirement). Because of stated past interests, I was led to trading. My financial situation is such that I can risk near 100K without serious downside. If I were to lose it all, the kid would still go to college. Just as careful losses will not effect my living standard, potential profits will only be accumulated and are earmarked towards retirement for my wife. I am in the enviable position of being able to take my time and do it right without a lot of pressure or stress. In the last few months I have: Bought and read 16 books on the subject Spent 4-6 hrs per day paper/sim trading Spent 2-4 hours per day studying anything I can find on the internet etc.(wife says I'm obsessed and I can only grin and say "yeah...ain't it cool?") Attended one trade show (Vegas) with another one scheduled in a few weeks in my home town of San Diego. I've have more fun than I could have imagined and I have yet to open an account or to trade a single share -- My self imposed schedule has me starting with small lots in another month or so. I will be trading from home, not because of any particular responsibilities, but because I have(perhaps unjustly) developed a real skepticism for some of the habits that the trading salons are pushing (trade! Trade!! TRADE!!!) I have excellent broadband and backup connections at my home. Because of this decision, threads such as this have become and will continue as my "community". If you're still here, thanks for suffering through my introduction. Questions and comments will follow in another message. Thanks again JB
