Well I guess we disagree here as well. Bush is not stupid. Gore might well have a higher IQ, but he also thinks because he is smart
that he is smarter then the American people and should be able to tell them what to do for their own good.

Can you provide any evidence that Bush is not stupid? (and please don't start putting forth his bought college degrees and arranged-for business positions as evidence of intelligence or competence).

I have seen no evidence. On the contrary, I've seen (to paraphrase from another source)"his pervading vacuousness, the deer-in-the-headlights stare, the burgeoning compilations of tortured syntax and uproarious gaffes, the nervous edgy glances of the surrounding adult handlers, the defiantly clueless Alfred E. Newman gaze, the utter lack of curiosity regarding the cluefulness of the world."

Please provide evidence contrary to this view. If it holds water, it would be reassuring to many among us.

Bland considered posting an agreement with your earlier assessment of the media but thought better of it. Now he wonders if two conservative voices at the same time isn't a bit too much...he may need to shift his weight a little...if he can.

Hi Tim,

I think we all welcome intelligent and respectful political arguments here. The bias is left wing and the thread is moderated for the purpose of keeping this a platform for the expression of liberal views. I think you've been thoughtful and respectful, so I've got no problem with your joining in here.

I think Reagan was a great positive for this country.

As for the above statement, though, would eye-rolling and head shaking be considered a flame? <g>

Tim, I don't think that Gore holds the positions that he does because he thinks he's smarter than the American people, although I can see how it might appear that way. I think that he simply believes that government is the answer, not the problem, and that big government programs are inherently fairer and more efficient than everyone deciding and fending for himself. I say that not because I have any particular insight into Gore but because I know lots of people who hold that view. They see a problem and automatically think that the government should fix it. I don't think an outsized opinion of his intelligence has anything to do with it.

Is it too late to mention that Reagan was suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer's even while he was in office? Was it about three days after he left that they whisked him away to play with Tinker Toys at adult day care away from public ridicule?
