Lets be fair about this. I propose that we line all of our political leaders up, ask all of them about their little personal picadillos and then kick out everyone that lies.

We almost did it to a president, so lets not stop there.

It should be totally clear from the impeachment of President Clinton that the process is indeed political. If it were otherwise, lying under oath in a federal court and to a federal grand jury would be sufficient grounds for removal from
office.

I think it's more complicated than that. It was lying under oath about a personal matter that had little or noting to do with the execution of the Presidency. And I think that's why impeachment got such a lukewarm reception from the American public. Most men can at least potentially see themselves in exactly CLinton's position. Do you admit publicly to private behavior that can end your long marriage in an instant?

I am a conservative and (mostly) vote Republican. I opposed Clinton's impeachment not because I like Clinton (I despise him for precisely the reasons we are discussing here), but because I believed that it excessively broadened the acceptable grounds for impeachment. If you can impeach a President for this, then you can impeach almost any President at almost any time. I do not believe this is what the Constitution intends and I do believe it will lead to seriously unstable government and a tyranny of the legislative branch.
