Eric,

I find it interesting that 1xRTT, 1xEV-DO, 1xEV-DV all are optimized to run in existing 1.25 MHZ spectrum. What effect are these extremely efficient modulation schemes going to have on carriers that are paying huge sums for new spectrum. The assumption that 3G would require 5MHZ bites may have been a bad joke on the service providers. It brings to mind the remark attributed to IJ a year or more ago, that he had bet the company on HDR. I think it might have been a good bet!

Pete

"..In the shorter term, 1xRTT/1xEV-DO should be an acceptable interim standard.."
-----------

And ITU IMT2000 applications for 1xevdo have been submitted. (Correspondence and supporting documents suggest that the CDG and 3GPP2 have been most obsessive regarding compliance.)

In light of now dreary prospects for timely 1xevdv completion, this is good news.

From what I've read, 1xevdv is pivotal only when VoIP (all IP networking) is ready to shine?

Though unfortunate, I appreciate that Q appears to be pulling on the brakes a bit to protect the Standard.

Anyone care to speculate on why NOK, TXN and LSI have become far more ardent supporters of 1xtreme? Could this tie in - in any way - with what's occurring in 3GPP with HSDPA? Anyone following events in 3GPP?
----------
"..Similarly, 3GPP has obtained endorsement for its UMTS system and it is likely that will seek and obtain approval of its HSDPA technology (3GPP's equivalent of 1XevDV) in 2001.."
----------

Can anyone else (thanks Slacker) comment on HSPDA?

My inference from MOT's statement above is that foundation technologies are the same as for 1xtreme - HDR.

This, to me, this prospect is very exciting, as it integrates QCOM's HDR IP into the heart of UMTS.
