I unfortunately have to agree with Paul on the fact that AMD probably pulled an Intel by releasing the 1.2 GHz.

But there is two other explanations :

1) AMD is keeping a big part their best yeilding chips to release them when 266FSB boards arrive, they also manage to feed Gateway decently. I strongly beleive that is the case since 1.2GHz were showing IN STOCK at a few places 1-2 weeks after the release.

2) The new stepping yeilds under the precedent which is less probable.
