All this redundant effort seems even more self-defeating for the right wing because how would anyone produce any wealth if everyone's studying issues all day?

I don't think that this is a right wing/left wing thing. Further, I expect that most just pay attention to the things that are close to their heart rather than all of the potential issues out there.
