No, it doesn't need to go that extreme.

And honest errors will always be made in perfectly good faith. Allowances should certainly made for that.

But there should always be a certain amount of healthy skepticism, independent inquiry, and accountability.

The entire electoral process in Florida we just witnessed demonstrates as clearly as it could possibly be shown that every individual involved in the process had an interest and at least some small stake in the outcome. Even if their actions (anyone's) were impeccable in setting aside their own personal interest for the benefit of as fair an outcome as possible, still they will be viewed with suspicion by some. Precisely because we all know that everyone involved has a personal interest...or else they wouldn't be involved in the first place. We know we are all human, and so we must have buffers and checks in place, and a means to examine the veracity of what we are told, so that we can draw our own conclusions. Not each of us individually on every single issue, but in broader terms, the means needs to be available to test that personal interests (on drug trials, contract bids, etc.) do not weigh unduly or unfairly.

Apologies for the long-windedness.
