I completely agree with you about education- in all things. But there will still be people who will want abortions,a nd they should (imo) be able to get them.

I tackled a similar question posed to me by a group of highschool students- they asked a panel of adults what we would do about hate. And all the adults said blah blah blah stern response, zero tolerance, yada yada yada- I spoke last. And though I am TOTALLY against hate- we live in a free country. And if, after all the education we can give you, and all the sensitivity training we can inject you still want to hate people, and hang around with people who hate people, this IS a free country where we should be able to make those choices.

Now the problem with abortion is the other life involved. But since that life is totally at the mercy of it's host body, the host body ought to have more of a say. Speaking as a host body myself. Even though I am against abortion for me (personally) in most cases- I would never ever want to make that choice for another woman. NEVER. EVER.

I'm really not sexist....

I know. This is a very complicated issue. I agree that education and sound guidance for young women is lacking. As is assistance for those who would carry their babies to term and offer them for adoption. Waaayyyy to much noise surrounding this very difficult issue.

I'm just back from a day trip, and am reading firstly all the mesages to me me, and secondly my favorite threads.

This education you call for, and I support completely, is a part of sex and sexuality education. A lot of conservatives are against that. I'm not saying you are.

But while we're at it, let's educate young men. The young potential father needs to know that once she is pregnant it is out of his control. That she does have the right to abort, and he can do nothing, but that if she does carry the child, he is legally obligated financially. He, in my opinion, is morally obligated to support her emotionally throughout the pregnancy as well. He needs, almost as much as she does, to understand the changes that will happen in a woman's body while his baby is in the oven, her need for vitamins, the consequences of using drugs, some baby care, and maybe some child development.

I agree with your call to teaching women about physical and psychological effects, but they need to know that it it will affect their future completely. Thir education, social lives, economics... It is so hard to study when the baby is crying. They don't hold your job at McDonald's when baby has the inevitable fever/earrache. Babies don't go well on dates, or even at the mall with your friends.

Self esteem seems to play a factor in many pregnancies. Girls are looking for someone to love them, or how to hold onto a boyfriend, but many don't think this through, unfortunately, until they are pregnant. I don't think they should have to pay with their futures. I think we should keep our laws off their bodies.
