"Pro-choice does not mean "pro-abortion".

With all due respect, bland hears that as slight "fudging", or disassociating oneself from the inevitable result of being pro-choice. You don't have to believe abortion is a "good thing", but you are condoning it.

Bland is pro-choice, but he believes in his heart abortion is a terrible thing, and that it does end a human life. He is not willing to soft-pedal that: he believes the awfulness of it should be acknowledged and not papered over. Not wallowed in, but recognized for the tragedy it truly is.

Similarly, Bland believes there are crimes so ghastly and heinous that the perpetrator should forfeit his life for committing them. So he is for capital punishment as well.
