Yes, but that is you wanting justice and justice for you seems to imply revenge in this case, an "eye for an eye" sort of thing. To me all that means is that we fall to the same level as the criminal -- there is no honor in killing and I do not want anyone's death on my hands. A civilized society protects its citizens from harm, but does so in a civilized manner. Murder is not made moral if it is done in the name of society, and it is not something a benevolent and civilized society does.

And yes, I would want revenge too if it was someone close to me who was the victim -- so I understand the sentiment. But speaking dispassionately, as governments should and as society should -- it would still be wrong to kill the criminal because that just puts us at the same level as the criminal.

This is all my opinion of course.
