Nice to see others like yourself that don't idealize Greenspan quite so much.As you may have seen "my previous posts"-- I think the whole Fed operation is a vestigial organ an anachronism so to speak and and could easily be replaced with the 10 yr T-Note as the inflation barometer-also it would bR about 50 million cheaper per year.

A late response ... The first 3/4 down was for the LTCM situation, so the first 3/4 up was just to undo that. Then he didn't need to know that GWB would get installed, he just needed to know that 2000 was an election year, and tax cuts were on the table as usual, so since he has to be ahead of the "curve", he positioned the fed in the event the tax cuts, as opposed to debt reduction, were the course Congress would take. IMO
