Lucent has posted modules for their winmodems.

Linux has made huge leaps this year in hardware support.

It's not as bad as some people's preconceived bias.

Dear Jim:

I have used the following PCI modems under Linux. USR Courier 33.6K, AT&T (Lucent) 56K, Cardinal 56K, Zoom 56K, Hayes 56K, Motorola ISDN, and Creative. All of the modems were on a PCI card. All external (serial) modems do work on Linux as they must be hardware (chip) based. I currently use a Diamond 56K external modem (its nice to see traffic via LEDS and be able to be able to reset it by cycling power).
