James, actually, you can fix a demographic imbalance. Japan and its xenophobic policy just does not want to. A more relaxed immigration policy in Japan would have done wonders to fix their problems (in conjunction with smarter fiscal/monetary policies), IMHO.

Jim, I pretty much agree with your demographic explanation. That explains my Boomer comment. I do, of course, think that the Japanese could have helped themselves climb out faster than they have (as apparently does Zeev...).

I also agree that we will have some tougher sledding six or seven years from now. I'm not saying we cannot address demographic issues and structural issues etc...But by then we will likely have a market levitating, PE's out of whack, and investors suffering from vertigo...

Of course, you could save your Roth by replacing your funds with an intermediate bond for about 7 years... :o)
