Plaintree Systems Signs VAR Agreement with CDS/Prometheus
11:47 EST Monday, December 18, 2000

OTTAWA, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ - Plaintree Systems Inc. (Plaintree), a
leading manufacturer of optical wireless products and network switches, today
announced it has signed a VAR (Value Added Reseller) agreement with
CDS/Prometheus for domestic and international sales.
CDS/Prometheus (www.cdsp.net) is an Ottawa-based supplier of high-speed
communications for networks and ISPs (Internet Service Providers) and is a
subsidiary of International Datacasting Corporation (TSE:IDC). International
Datacasting Corporation (IDC) (http://www.intldata.ca)) provides advanced
systems and services for the broadband satellite distribution of digital data
in a variety of point-to-multipoint applications with an existing base in
35 countries worldwide.
Plaintree develops and manufactures optical wireless links using robust
and reliable LED technology. These links, which are part of Plaintree's new
WAVEBRIDGE series, provide high-speed network connections, bypassing the need
for expensive cable installation and frequency licensing for Internet Service
Providers.
"We are always looking for new and exciting ways to deliver a last-mile
solution," stated Barry Williams, President and CEO of CDS/Prometheus. "Now,
with the addition of wireless LED, we can offer an even wider choice of
services to our clients. We are pleased to be partnering with the very best in
this field."
"CDS/Prometheus will be including LED wireless in its national and
international offering," said David Watson, President and Chief Executive
Officer of Plaintree. "We think our products are a perfect fit with the
network infrastructure that CDS/Prometheus provides."

About CDS/Prometheus
--------------------
CDS/Prometheus (CDSP) is a company devoted to information sharing and is
the result of the merging of CDS Data Systems and PROMETHEUS Information
Services, both founded in 1996. CDSP was formed in November 1999 as a merging
of the teams of talented people from both companies with backgrounds in
computers, networking, Intranet, Internet and high-speed communications. CDSP
works with ISPs, architects, builders, property management companies,
business, and communities to provide high-speed Internet solutions. The
solutions that are provided are in the 2Mb to 100Mb range and use the latest
in wireless technology. In September 2000, International Datacasting
Corporation of Ottawa (TSE: IDC) acquired CDS/Prometheus. Visit CDSP at

About Plaintree Systems
-----------------------
Founded in 1988, Plaintree Systems Inc. is a leading manufacturer of
optical wireless links, network switches, and LAN and telecommunications
products. Using infrared (LED) technology, Plaintree's high-quality products
offer high-speed data and voice transmission without any licensing
requirements. These links are easy to install. Once installed the links are
safe, secure, reliable, and robust, so avoid costly network downtime. Unlike
other network solutions, these links can be densely co-located to provide big
bandwidth connectivity without the frequency problems associated with crowded
airwaves. The technology is a cost-efficient alternative to the expense of
laying cable to connect the 'last mile'. Internet service providers and
cellular operators are some of the potential markets for Plaintree's systems.
Another high-potential market is the avionics industry, where radio
frequencies are tightly regulated.
Plaintree Systems headquartered in the Ottawa region, operates
manufacturing facilities for switches and wireless products in Arnprior,
Ontario. Plaintree is publicly traded in Canada on the Toronto Stock Exchange
and in the U.S. on the Nasdaq Bulletin Board, with 86,059,869 shares
outstanding. Plaintree maintains a world-wide web site at
plaintree.com..

Mkilloran- Again, I think you and I agree on the cable plant's ultimate value, but I think we differ GREATLY on the time frame for new services to roll out. It's going to be a very long process. It has to be because it's pay as you go. MSOs always climb uphill(understatement) in financing.

Interactive services in 2001? Again, I don't know of any specific stats indicating these have rolled out in any quantity this year or will next. I think the number is close to neglible so I think there are only 'tests' today. Putting the 'capability' in a STB is far different from turning the system on.

Can you find a real deployment of iTV today? I know there are some tests going on in the UK. If you have a url to the actual test results detailing how it works, it would be appreciated.

As you may also know, the FTC threw another monkey wrench in iTV world. If I'm reading them correctly, they want 'open access' on iTV!? What a disaster that would be. Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida)
